2014-09-08_EcologyClub1In August, TechWise provided funding of $5,050 for the Mountainside Elementary’s Young Environmental Stewards (YES) Club in Colorado.

The Mountainside YES Club is an after school science education club for 4th and 5th grade students that uses outdoor field trips, guest speakers, and other adventures to get students excited about science and to learn about ecological concepts.

At the end of the thirteen-week program, the club chooses a service or education project (like tree planting or informational board game building) to present to other clubs and judges at the concluding Symposium held at Colorado College. It lets sponsors and parents see what their students have accomplished and learned over the course of the semester, and lets the students be exposed to a college campus, while displaying their hard work.

Last school year ended with the study of Underground Ecosystems, where caving and worms were the most popular parts of the semester.
